Exaggerated Sometimes I get too busy to find time to write. Sometimes I want to write about things not related to social media and public relations. Sometimes I just need to spend time with the family. There you go - three good reasons for the recent lack of pomposity on the WordyMouth blog.

Actually, I have been up to quite a few things and they have been quite cool.

Big Event #1

My son Shawn graduated from high school the week after he earned his private pilot's license. (He still hasn't taken me for an airplane ride!). It's hard to imagine that I now have two kids in college and two more rapidly becoming teens. I must be getting old (or mature). And to kill me emotionally, I eagerly went to see Toy Story 3, which for those who have grown up with Woody and Buzz, really hit me in the stomach. You quickly realize how important the little moments are when they suddenly well up in your eyes.

Big Event #2

I've been teaching the importance of planning social media campaigns. I must have hit a nerve at the State Bar of Nevada Annual Meeting because a spoke with a number of participants who said that this was the first time that they really understood how important it is to plan ahead before jumping into a social media campaign. It seems so simple, but you'd be surprised at the number of folks who still think all you need is a blog and a Twitter account.

Here are the latest slides:

Father's day and my birthday resulted in my kids buying me an iPad. Yes, I know that I was adamant that I wouldn't purchase one, but now that I have it, I very happy. It's cool to be able to watch videos and still read my vast Kindle book library. And now that Hulu is on it, I'm even happier. (Now, if I can just get a preview invite to Hulu Plus).

I've been reading Trust Agents: Using the Web to Build Influence, Improve Reputation, and Earn Trust by Chris Brogan and Julien Smith. Mr. Brogan always has seemed to get the idea that communication and customer service go hand-in-hand and this book hasn't disappointed.

I managed to break away to Yosemite and took some pictures this past weekend. The falls were incredible and the drive up the canyon past the Merced River showed a river still coming off flood stage. Lots of water and green. And surprisingly, for one of America's popular national parks, it wasn't all that crowded. Sort of nice to be able to take your time and not worry about getting run over by a driver paying more attention to Half Dome than the road! Of course, it seems the public transportation solution in the park also was helping to keep the crowds from overrunning the entire environment. Looking down from the overlook at Olmsted Point, I was treated to a golden sky that made the stark granite rocks really sparkle. Then it was fast down the other side for a land speed record back to Las Vegas. Now if only Shawn could fly me around...
