The backlash generated by the Hispanic "Star Spangled Banner" reveals a silent sentiment of many legal citizens: illegal immigrants just want to steal citizenship.
When President Bush indicated he felt the national anthem should be sung in English, he may have been lending support to First Lady Laura's National Anthem Project, which supports learning the words to The Star-Spangled Banner through music education.
A recent Harris poll found that two out of three American adults don?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢t know all of the words to "The Star-Spangled Banner" ?¢‚Ǩ‚Äú and many don?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢t even know which song is our National Anthem or why it was written.
I wonder if any other country would tolerate changing the words of its national anthem, even if the new song was offered up to show unity?
The backlash of this "tribute" anthem will only further enrage conservatives to further limit legal, and illegal, immigration in the U.S. Not to mention the act further shows the imigrant reform movement fails to understand the people they wish to join and persuade.
