Political bloggers fear, with trepidation it appears, an infiltration of PR bloggers hiding amongst them posting to their blogs.?Ç The Boston Globe relates how Erick Erickson's Redstate.com, found "a sock puppet, shill, or a troll -- Web slang for bloggers who pretend to be grass-roots political commentators but instead are paid public relations agents," posting favorable hype for Senator John McCain, whom Erickson says his readers don't appreciate and would never blog about.

With big corporations now hiring public relations firms to pay fake bloggers to plant favorable opinions of the businesses online, many political bloggers are concerned that candidates, too, will hire people to pretend to be grass-roots citizens expressing views.

Erickson says he figured someone was pulling a fast one and tracked the blog posting to "a Michigan political operative whose firm worked for McCain's political action committee."

Advocates of social media couldn't be so naive to not anticipate this was going to happen once they started convincing bloggers to say nice things about their clients in their own blogs.?Ç Now apparently, the not so coy practice of dropping in and pooping, as Triumph the Comic Insult Dog might characterize, has gotten the attention of the political bloggers and others.

Actually, this isn't much different from shot gunning out a press release to a bunch of disinterested editors who never would write about your topic and feeling good about yourself.?Ç Except in this case, by sneaking in, a few posts and comments are making the blogosphere, making the poster feel even better.

After which, Triumph, the Comic Insult Dog might say, "But seriously, you've been a great blog ... for me to poop on!"
