Most users have seen it if they've tuned into Twittervision. There are those people answering the Twitter question and another group spamming the screen with constant repeating messages.

Now if you just visit Twitter using Twitterrific or Twitteroo, or just stay put on your Twitter home, you see a different scene; just a group of friends and followers posting messages and having a conversation. This week I have met and visited with many interesting people, and listened in on some intriguing conversations. I have been privy to some arguments, some sniping, and I've learned a bit about some of those folks I've always wanted to meet.

Over on Twittervision, it's an endless stream of messages, some interesting, others not so much, and then these endless posts directing you to scriptures, news or auction items. Interestingly, many of these bloggers don't have any friends on Twitter. Paul Terry Walhus, a Tweeter in Austin, pointed out last night that one of these posters had at least 20 percent of the traffic Thursday night (PDT) on Twitter.

Part of this trend can be attributed to recent articles about hacking Twitter, and to Twitter applications, such as Twitterfeed or TwitThis. Ike Pigott pondered how long it would take for spammers to hack TinyURL so that Twitter porn posts would soon dominate Twittervision.

Twitter certainly has its hawks, its sparrows and a few eagles. It's exciting to meet new people and join in a conversation. And watching Twittervision can be fun too. I have a sneaky suspicion that Twitter is close to a tipping point; either it will continue and grow as a community, or become just another junk message channel. I hope it tips towards community, but I have a sneaky suspicion it's heading towards oblivion.
